Halloween Surprise
I heard a gentle tapping on my door
Some smiling Girl Scouts and their leader, six or more
They said they had treat for me
That is right how neat can that be
Some cookies and a handmade card was just the right touch
It said “Hope we didn’t scare you too much”
Calendar
Monday we have Bingo hopefully to win
Tuesday my life long friends the Hauns come at ten
Wednesday there is a movie popcorn and all
Thursday there is trivia where we try hard to recall
Friday we go to Walmart in the van
Try to remember what we go for if we can
Saturday we end with another Bingo game
Popular with all the men and women
Sunday you will find our family in the Wood pew at FCC
That is where we love to be
Grandchildren
My grandchildren came the other day
Entertainment was no problem I must say
Each brought their own entertainment along
With a cell phone you can’t go wrong
They shared some really funny lines
We all had a very good time
They are not children any more
We didn’t have to play Old Maid as in days of yore
Polls
I would like to see a poll taken on polls
Do they really play such an important role
Do they really reflect what the total population opinion
By talking to some who think microphones are fun
Seasons
Seasons
Summer is almost gone
Winter is coming on
No more outdoor barbecues
No more shorts and toeless shoes
On Thanksgiving we give thanks to Thee
Then it is time to decorate the Christmas tree
On Easter friends are back from wherever it is they go
And leave us here to shovel snow
To My Three Children
I would just like to say
You are all special
In your own way
You are all just great
What I call first rate
Just to be clear
You were not genetically engineered
Time
What a difference fifty years can make
Especially all the new ways we communicate
We now have aspirin bottles with safety caps
Seat belts strapped across our laps
Pizza delivered right to our door
Delicilous fried chicken at the the grocery store
Educational toys to improve reading skills
For every pain there is a pill
What a difference fifty years can make in the way we look
Gravity takes its toll no matter how we work
Cryptogram
I liked yesterdays cryptogram
“My problem is reconciling my gross habits with my net income.” ~Errol Flynn
Butterflies
Where have all the butterflies gone
Not one in our garden or lawn
That was once a favorite 4H project
Catching a really big one was the object
Frame it under glass was our pride and joy
Always fun for a girl or boy
The Nineties
I can’t tell you how much family and friends mean to me
Nor how much I really enjoy poetry
I love suits of every color so that I can mix and match
Especially when there is a 75% off attached
When my week is sometimes filled with aches and pain
Church can make me feel whole again
